Tough Racing for Sam
Forest Edge Kart Round 3 – 5/5/2019
A tough recent weekend at Forest Edge with a grid of 40+ drivers including some of the highest rated drivers in Britain.
A dry forecast for the weekend meant fast, close racing.
I started off the weekend on Saturday practice steadily, finding more speed as the day went on. With a few setup changes made throughout the day I was happy with how the kart was handling and ready for race day on Sunday!
After 3 lap practice on the Sunday we noticed I had somehow managed to bend my rear axle! But the team did a great job on repairing this and we managed to get out for the first race of the day!
Heat 1 – I started 15th for the first race. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a great start and lost a few places. I did however make a few places but just as I began to move forward, I was driven wide on a corner and lost lots of time and places and finished 25th place.
Heat 2 – For the second race I started 7th place. I had a decent start and clean race only loosing a couple of places to finish 9th position out of the 32 drivers in the race.
Heat 3 – For the third and final heat I started 26th position. I had another clean race and made my way up to 20th position by the end of the race.
These heat results meant I would qualify in the A final (top 33 drivers out of the 48 total). I started towards the back of the final in 30th position but none the less pleased to qualify in a seriously competitive grid. I had a good few opening laps making around 8 places. However, on the last lap of the race a driver pushed me too hard going into a corner and I ended up in the wall. I did recover but this was after I lost many places.
A tough race day but taking the positives and learning every time!
