Sam Sponsored for Another Year and Celebrates with a Win!
We are delighted to announce our continued sponsorship of local karter, Samuel Gay. We are so proud of his achievements and can’t wait to see the new Bookers & Bolton stickers on his kart this coming year.
Here is a round up of what happened in 2019 and his first race of 2020.
2019 Roundup
2019 was a difficult but tough first year in the senior rotax class for me.
In the Camberley Kart Club Championship I managed to finish a solid 3rd place. To add to this I had 3 podiums over the course of the 9 rounds of which I competed in. I was pleased with this as it was a closely matched grid all year!!
In the Forest Edge Kart Club Championship I finished a respectable 12th out of 40+ contenders. This is a much larger grid with big teams spending big money. So all things considered it’s nothing to be disappointed by, but I am aiming to better on this result next year! I also had a few top 3 finishes in some heats.
Next year I will be challenging for the win at Camberley and a top 8 at Forest Edge! I will do this by being more consistent and improving some aspects of my race craft. However, thank you to the Bookers & Bolton team for your continued support and cannot wait for 2020!
2020 Starts with a Win
We headed to Camberley Kart Club for the 3rd round of the winter championship and my first race of 2020 on Saturday!
The day started off cold and wet, much wetter than expected. Therefore we chose the wrong tyre for qualifying and ended up 4th on the grid, a position I know I could improve on!
For the first heat I had to scrub in new wet tyres so lost out at the start but managed to finish 3rd!
This meant I started 3rd for the main final. Everyone switched to dry tyres. I didn’t make a great start and struggled to get heat into my tyres for the first few laps. I lost a fair bit of time and dropped to 4th. Once I got the heat into the tyres, I got my head down and chased the leaders. I closed the gap and went for a move on 3rd place. However it didn’t work out and I again, lost time. Never the less, I refused to give up and began to chase again! I caught the front runners once more and made some great overtakes and got to the lead with a few laps to go. The rest was easy… whilst setting the fastest laps I pulled away and won the final!
Overall an enjoyable day at the track with my first senior rotax win to top it off! This also puts me in great contention for the winter championship win!
Best Wishes
Samuel Gay
